Lake Wanaka

Lake Wanaka is an enclosed paradise surrounded by towering mountains, native forestry and sparkling waters. The serene beauty of the area combined with the array of entertainment and dining options makes it an attractive and popular holiday destination for people of all ages.

Lake Wanaka is a secluded paradise. Bordered by majestic mountains, surrounded by native bushland and at the feet of the spectacular Southern Alps, Lake Wanaka is a place to reflect and relax. The sparkling waters of the country's fourth largest lake attract adventure all year round. With a population of approximately 4,500 you can't help but relax in the peace and quiet of this beautiful destination.

Lake Wanaka is a brilliant place to travel all year round, the only thing that changes is the colour of the flora and the temperatures. Spring is the area's wettest season and snow skiing is best from June till September.

Lake Wanaka is the gateway to the Mount Aspiring National Park, the 3rd largest park in the country. There are some great tramps and bushwalks through the park varying in intensity to suit all travellers.

There are a multitude of activities to enjoy in Lake Wanaka including fly fishing, white water sledging, mountaineering, water skiing, wind surfing and much more. Tempt your taste buds at one of the local wineries or dine in style at one of restaurants or cafes. Check out the Stuart Landsborough Puzzling World where you'll get lost amongst mazes, puzzles and holograms. You should also visit the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum which features a collection of WWII fighter aircraft.

There are a number of great events on throughout the year at Lake Wanaka including the Festival of Colour in April and the Wanaka Mountain Film Festival in July.

You can get to Lake Wanaka by car, air or bus. Domestic flights arrive at Wanaka Airport and some Australian flights arrive into the nearby Queenstown airport.
