Richmond is a small town in the Nelson region of the South Island, New Zealand. It is located 13 kilometres south of Nelson.
Richmond is a serene base for the region's many activities and attractions. You can encounter nearby wineries, beaches, art galleries, beautiful river valleys and horse treks. National parks Nelson Lakes, Abel Tasman and Kahurangi are all easily accessible. The Richmond Ranges are also a nice spot for outdoor adventures such as hiking and mountain biking.
Richmond is a service centre for the farms, orchards and vineyards of the Waimea Plains. Pip fruit and berries are grown here, as well as hops for the beer industry.
Richmond History
European pioneers founded the city of Nelson in 1842, although this bountiful, temperate region had been home to Maori for many centuries.
