Blenheim

Blenheim is a town in the wine-growing Marlborough region; it is located in the north east of the South Island, New Zealand.

Blenheim is the focal point for the Marlborough wine growing region. There are at least 20 wineries within driving distance and most of them welcome visitors for sampling sessions and cellar door sales. Wines you will mainly come across are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer. The annual Wine Marlborough festival is held every February in Blenheim. It displays the region's wealth and attracts visitors from all over the world.

Apart from wineries, Blenheim has other great qualities in and around the town; there is a lovely choice of cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, artisan food outlets, golf courses and character accommodation is also a specialty. It is fantastic place to visit all year round, mountains frame the area of Blenheim and trap the summer heat in which makes it one of the sunniest places in New Zealand.

Blenheim History

The bays of Marlborough supported a small Maori population possibly as early as the 12th century. Although the early history of Marlborough was closely associated with the Nelson settlement, the people of Marlborough wanted independence from Nelson. Nineteen years after the original Nelson settlement, Marlborough became a separate province in 1859.
