Woodville
WOODVILLE ACTIVITIES AND TRAVEL | Woodville Information
Woodville is a small town that lies in the Wairarapa of the southern North Island, New Zealand; it is located 75 kilometres north of Masterton and 25 kilometres east of Palmerston North.
Woodville is a well-liked stop for antique lovers, who enjoy the pleasant shops jam-packed full of collectables and colonial furniture. Gottfried Lindauer, one of New Zealand's most famous artists, lived and worked in the town in the early 1900s. A must see is a replica studio to see copies of his works.
Woodville is also close to two forest parks: Tararua and Ruahine. Both parks are great for outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking and hunting opportunities. At the tiny settlement of Ballance, you can catch a horse-drawn wagon tour to view the breathtaking Tararua Wind Farm.
Woodville History
Woodville was a traveller's rest spot in Maori history. It was also a place to rest for hunters as they walked from one side of the Manawatu Gorge to the other. The local tribe was Rangitane, and maintained strong and positive relations with other tribes.
