Wellsford

Wellsford is a country town in the North Island of New Zealand. The town is the northernmost key settlement in the Auckland Region; it is located 114 kilometres northwest of Auckland City.

Wellsford is a hectic country town which serves the local farming and horticultural community. Travellers can fill the cars up with petrol, run into the local supermarket for supplies and visit the quick service restaurants that are on the main street.

Kaipara Harbour is just west of Wellsford; to the east are the surf beaches of Mangawhai Heads, Pakiri, Langs Beach and Waipu Cove. Dome Forest Walkway is another local attraction nearby that visitors can enjoy.

Wellsford History

In the 1860s, English settlers established themselves at Port Albert, on the Kaipara Coast around 10 kilometres west of Wellsford. The settlers were named the Albertlanders. Not many of the settlers arrived at Port Albert and the ones who did found it difficult to make a living. The majority of the Albertlanders moved inland, to more fertile areas in the region, that's when Wellsford was founded.
