Ruapehu National Park is a village that borders the World Heritage Tongariro National Park and the Whanganui National Park.
From Ruapehu National Park there is amazing views of the mountains and the Hauhangatahi wilderness. It is a great place to visit for outdoor adventures all year round. In winter, Mount Ruapehu's snow fields are lively with skiers and snowboarders.
Also popular and amazing any time of the year is hiking to the Crater Lake, rafting, climbing, kayaking and mountain biking. Over summer you can still see the great views as Mount Ruapehu's chair lifts work for sightseeing. Ruapehu National Park offers mostly lodge accommodation and a small but quality choice of eating places.
Ruapehu National Park History
The Ruapehu District's was one of the last areas in New Zealand to be settled. The first main European influence came in the 1840s, with missionaries on the southern reaches of the Whanganui River.
