Morrinsville is a town in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It is situated around 33 kilometres east of Hamilton and 22 kilometres west of Te Aroha.
Morrinsville is a pass through point when visiting the hot springs of Te Aroha. It is mainly a service centre for the local farming community but there is some appealing shops and cafes.
The town has a museum which is home to an 1874 pioneer cottage from the district, fully furnished with authentic household items. The museum also has a Maori canoe, as well as a collection of farm machinery and tools that were in common use around Morrinsville.
Morrinsville History
The Ngati Werewere people of the Ngati Haua Iwi were resident in Piako when the first trader, John Johnson, came to the district in 1852. Contractors such as Harp and settlers such as Turnbull, Walker, Murray, Horrell and McDonald followed in the 1870s. Thomas Morrin who the town is named after purchased a block of land in 1873 -1874 and founded the Lockerbie Estate.
