Martinborough is a town in South Wairarapa, Wellington region on the North Island, New Zealand. It is situated 65 kilometres east of Wellington and 35 kilometres south-west of Masterton.
Martinborough is a great place to wine and dine; tasting the wine and dining at the outstanding restaurants are both great ways to experience the town. From Martinborough's village centre you can walk to any of the 30 local vineyards. There's also a wine centre where you can sample many wines in one easy location.
The choices are endless for accommodation you can choose to stay at a country estate, boutique hotel or a self-contained heritage cottage. There are bed and breakfasts and farmstays no matter where you look. You can also take time out to hike around the Patuna Chasm Walkway and see some scenic views.
Martinborough History
John Martin founded the town in the 19th century. He set out the first streets in the pattern of the Union Flag and many of the town's streets are named after foreign cities visited by Martin.
