Cambridge

Cambridge is a country town in the Waikato region of the North Island, New Zealand. It is located 24 kilometres southeast of Hamilton.

Cambridge has charming tree lined streets and many well looked after heritage buildings. It is legendary for its horse breeding and its success in the Melbourne Cup, with 13 of the cup's winners bred there.

You can do nearly anything in and around Cambridge you can shop and view art, attend a horse show, dine at local restaurants, go on on an eco-adventure and take pleasure in the wonderful parks and gardens. There is also an interesting museum in the old courthouse that is a great insight into the towns history.

From Cambridge you are in easy reach of Lake Rotorua, Lake Taupo, Waitomo Caves, and Lord of the Rings, Hobbiton.

Cambridge History

Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the Waikato region contained the third most populated part of New Zealand. Waikato was inhabited by iwi such as Ngati Toa and Tainui.
