Contrasting volcanoes and landscapes combine to provide an unforgettable lifetime excursion. From the steaming crater floor of White Island to the high and exposed summit of Mount Tarawera, this is your unique opportunity to experience New Zealand’s two most prominent volcanic features.
Mount Tarawera is a dormant volcanic rift in the centre of a chain which extends from the volcanoes - Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro on the central plateau, through to White Island in the Bay of Plenty. The violent eruption of Tarawera, during the early hours of 1886 June 10th, was one of the most notable events of the 19th century. We will take you to the summit, where you can enjoy powerful views of the craters and domes formed during this huge eruption.
White Island (or Whakaari) is one of New Zealand’s most active volcanoes. The White Island volcano is estimated to be between 150,000 to 200,000 years old. It was named White Island by Captain Cook, the first European to sight the island. The scenery is lunar-like and truly spectacular.
White Island is privately owned and as a result is in pristine condition and is a fascinating natural laboratory. Tourists from all over the world have enjoyed her uniqueness. Visiting this beautiful place is an experience you will never forget.
