Tour Itinerary

Day One - Christchurch/ Greymouth/ Punakaiki

Travel on one of the world’s top six-train journeys west over the Canterbury Plains towards this great alpine range that divides the west and east of the South Island. Enjoy panoramic views as your journey continues over viaducts and through a series of tunnels towards Arthur’s Pass National Park. Descend through the infamous 15-kilometre long Otira Tunnel and lush west coast rain forest before arriving at Greymouth. Travel north by coach to Punakaiki for your overnight stay.

Day Two - Pancake Rocks/Buller Gorge/Nelson

Spend the morning Punakaiki this wild and beautiful coastal location famous for it’s “Pancake” shape limestone rock formations and spectacular “Blow Holes” formed by the constant surf. See huge amounts of seawater compress and explode vertically through these rock formations. Join your coach mid afternoon for Nelson travelling via Westport and The Buller Gorge. We recommend that you visit one of the many local cafes in the central area and enjoy the artistic ambience of the area.

Day Three - Marlborough Wineries

Head east from Nelson via the state forests to your accommodation for the evening. Once checked in tour the Marlborough Wineries. The tour visits four of the better-known producers in the area. Learn about, sample and purchase if you wish from a variety of award-winning wines. Evening at leisure, maybe with a special bottle of wine over dinner at your accommodation in Blenheim.

Day Four - Kaikoura Coast

Depart Blenheim aboard your coach bound for Kaikoura. Your journey takes you past the Lake Elsmere salt producing area then down the rugged coastline to Kaikoura Township. Arriving early afternoon we suggest that you spend time in the township taking in the audio visual at the Visitors Centre. This presentation highlights the unique layout of the coastal terrain and why so many whales and other marine creatures are attracted to the area. Evening at leisure.

Day Five -Whale Watch/TranzCoastal/Christchurch

Join a three hour cruise early or mid morning with Kaikoura Whalewatch. Travel aboard a purpose built high-speed catamaran with observation decks out to the areas where the large sperm whales are found feeding. Whales are in the area all year round due to the abundance of Krill, their main food source. Continue to Christchurch mid afternoon aboard the TranzCoastal train. The initial part of the journey is along the coastline south of Kaikoura providing some unique scenes including basking Sea lions, large crops of Plankton swaying in the surf and coastal bird life. Arrive in Christchurch around 7.00pm.
