Visit NZ's innovative and interactive brewery tour - see, touch, smell and taste all that is beer, from the early days of the Coopers Shop through to present day production. Relax in the heart of the brewery at our Brewfloor Bar where you can 'pour the perfect pint' with your free tasting session.

Description

Upon arrival you will be given a history of beer and brewing around the world. You will be hosted by a virtual Douglas Myers, created through natural light projection. Myers chats about beer and brewing with historical figures ranging from Captain Cook to Sir Arthur Myers (grandfather of Douglas Myers).

Next the explanation of the brewing process begins, you will experience the craft of brewing and learn what goes into making their favourite beers. You will go from a hydroponics hops room where hop plants are growing, through a hops chiller where you can smell and taste the hops, and into the malt room. Along the way your guide explains the important part each of these raw ingredients plays in the brewing of beer. You then experience a virtual tour of brewing, where computer graphic animation takes you through the brewing process as if they are grains of barley, being mashed, boiled, spun, fermented, matured, filtered and poured into a glass.

After the explanation of brewing, you learn a bit about two of New Zealand's best known brands - Lion Red and Steinlager. Additionally, an explanation of the diversity of Lion Nathan and its brands is presented, within the theme of making the world a more sociable place inch.

No brewery tour is complete without a visit to the packaging hall, where the clink of bottles coming off the production line and the sight of thousands of bottles is bound to impress.

The last formal part of the tour is a short film about the history of New Zealand beer and brewing industry, including Lion Brewery, beginning with early brewing, prohibitionists, the founding of New Zealand Breweries and 6 o'clock swills, leading to the New Zealand brewing industry as it is today.

The tour concludes with a lesson on how to pour the perfect beer. You can try your hand at pouring your own Lion Red or Steinlager, and then of course sample both Lion Red and Steinlager

Session Details

This tour operates Monday to Saturday with tours commencing at 9.30am, 12.15pm and 3.00pm. Bookings essential. As a guide you will be at the venue between 90 minutes and two hours, dependent on your tasting session.

Experience Participants

This experience is valid for two people. There will be up to 25 visitors on each guided tour to one tour guide.

Alcoholic beverages to be served to those over 18, ID will be requested. There are a number of stairs on the tour - packaging and bottling hall, so please be aware of this prior to booking
